IK1PMR brief biography

Italiano

I was born in Casale Monferrato (Italy) on December 30th, 1969. I became interested in computers and radios very early, and I began my studies in computer science in 1983. In 1984 I bought my first home computer (a Sinclair ZX Spectrum), and in the same years I started listening to AM broadcastings and CB band.

I became an SWL and then I earned my amateur radio license in 1990. I received the callsign IK1PMR (full HF license, CEPT class A), still holded.

After an experience in the computer science industry, I earned a Master degree in Computer Science (with honors) from Torino University in 1997.

Then I spent about 5 years doing academic research at the Computer Science Department of the same University. I earned a PhD in Computer Sciece in February 2002.

Actually I also work on my own as an information and communication technology consultant. I created an internet company which provides web-based services. If you are a no-profit organization, you can have great discounts or even free services (like hosting, e-mails, web applications) from us, please contact me and explain your needs.

At the same time, my interest in amateur radio is still high, and I enjoy working DX on all HF bands and all modes, always low power (< 100w). My favourite mode is CW, and favourite bands are 10 and 14 MHz. My radios are two Elecraft K2 (one is 100w version and the other is 15w) and a old Kenwood TS-440S. Of course I have interfaced my radios to the PC, and I sometimes develope/modify amateur radio software.

My small contributions to the amateur radio community include elmering new hams and being a Volunteer Examineer for USA amateur radio licenses.

I like travelling and in the last years I had the opportunity to visit most of Europe, Mexico, the South-West USA, Australia, Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia), Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Banaba island and Somalia.
