Who is an Elmer ?"Elmer is someone who provides personal guidance and assistance to would-be hams or new/non-expert hams. The ARRL motto "hams helping hams" gives a good idea of the elmer's job. A synonim for elmer is mentor.As an elmer, you can help in a great variety of ways, from technical advice (for antennas, station layout, operating techniques) to legal. Maybe you can explain a new ham how to start on a "new" mode like CW or RTTY, or how to set up a portable HF station, or how to operate a contest. |
When I received my Elmer Award from ARRL, I decided to start developing this web page, with a collection of information and links about "elmers" (mentors) in amateur radio. |
